You may have heard of a trapped nerve or perhaps pinched nerve but what exactly is it? And more importantly, how do you fix it? The good news is, it’s generally easy.
Let’s look at trapped nerves in the neck. The most common form of a trapped nerve in the neck is from a disc bulge. The nerve gets impinged by the disc and produces radiating symptoms into the arm, hand and across the shoulder. It can be experienced as a dull ache, shooting pain, tingling and/or numbness. To fix it, first you must understand why this problem happened in the first place so that you can avoid it happening again and also know what to do to avoid aggravating it.
The first step is to remove the cause of your problem which I have written about extensively in the major cause of neck pain. Unless you do this you will continue to aggravate your condition and could even be making your problem worse. You must also do exactly the right exercises otherwise you could be pushing your disc further into the wrong direction-pushing it harder up against the nerve.
The next step is to do neck exercises to take the pressure away from the nerve which I have written about here in how to fix a disc bulge

The third step is to regain your range of motion so that you can stretch out all of your soft tissues again. You want to have a neck that is not only pain free but also flexible once again.
You also need to make sure that you have the correct pillow, and that you have your workstation correctly positioned. If you drive you need to make sure that your seat position is correct because you need to make sure that you are not aggravating your condition. If you stay out of a ‘forward head position’ your neck will be able to heal and you will get better.
